The purpose of the tutorial is to provide participants with the knowledge to be able to manage a selection process of a test tool both with traditional methods and with the help of AI. For the selection of these tools, most companies focus mainly on the technical and economic aspects, often neglecting to make other evaluations: training, project start-up, architecture and a whole series of hidden costs that, more or less intentionally, vendors do not highlight.
The tutorial is aimed at all stakeholders involved in the selection process for acquiring a test tool, as well as Test Managers, Test Analysts, and Testers who will contribute to a decision that is not purely technical but also takes different factors into account.

The tutorial lasts the entire day and is divided into two phases: the first, theoretical phase includes an introduction to the general principles for managing a test tool selection process – the second, practical phase includes an exercise for preparing an RFI document using both a traditional approach and AI-based techniques.
No prerequisites are required to participate in the tutorial. Having basic knowledge of testing methodologies and techniques may be helpful.

Outline:
Identifying the tool type: ALM – Requirements Engineering – Quality Management – Functional Test Automation – Performance Testing
The approach: Enterprise, Niche, or Open Source tools? – Analyst-driven (Gartner, Forrester, …) – Selecting AI-based frameworks and tools for testing – What are other companies doing?
The different perspectives: Project, Process, User, Product, Supplier, Economics, Architecture
TOC – Total Cost of Ownership: License costs: Perpetual or subscription? – Maintenance costs – Training costs – Consulting and project kickoff costs – Architectural costs – Hidden costs
POC – Requesting a Proof of Concept: Defining objectives (POC scope) – Identifying success criteria
Using Artificial Intelligence: Selecting testing tools with the help of AI: using ChatGPT to get suggestions for choosing a test tool
