Accessible AI in Requirements Engineering
FRANZ ZEHENTNER

The goal of this workshop is to show how already existing AI tools can help along the requirements engineering process. A fictional company will be founded with an idea of an application. Various AI applications will be used with the participants in order to create the foundation for the development of the application. Development of the application itself is not part of the workshop. The participants should learn how to use existing AI tools efficiently without having to have a deep AI knowledge.
Outline
1. Introduction & Goals
Present the workshop objectives - Overview of existing AI tools relevant to requirements engineering
2. Defining the Solution Workflow
Group activity: Participants collaboratively design a solution workflow to address the fictional company’s application idea - Outcome: Clear workflows aligned with the prepared requirements
3. AI Applications Overview
Present existing AI applications in requirements engineering - Discuss their potential impact on the designed workflows
4. Targeting Key Workflow Steps
Group discussion: Identify which workflow steps can benefit most from AI - Decide as a group which steps to target during the workshop
5. Applying AI Tools
Participants, working in groups or pairs, use existing AI tools to address the targeted workflow steps - Real-time guidance and troubleshooting by the instructor
6. Result Presentation & Feedback
Groups present their AI-assisted workflows and outcomes - Discuss obstacles, tool effectiveness, and lessons learned
7. Closing Discussion
Reflect on identified workflows and AI’s role in improving them - Discuss practical ways to integrate AI tools into participants' own requirements engineering processes.
